I was first introduced to Giancarlo through the recommendation of my mentor, Eriko Sato, during my time in high school. We visited his former workshop in New York City after countless visits to other dealers and luthiers throughout the city, all to no avail. Upon picking up the first instrument he had available, I knew this was the one. I have owned Giancarlo’s 2007 Guarneri ‘del Gesù’ “Il Cannone” model since 2013, and it has accompanied me throughout my educational and professional career as a recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician, taking me across the United States, Europe, and Asia. This violin has the clarity, focus, and projection to cut through the immense power and depth of a full orchestra, yet it is subtle and forgiving enough to blend with other instruments when needed. I have yet to see or perform on another violin that possesses such a vast range of colors, both modern and antique. Not only is Giancarlo a skilled and gifted maker, but he is also exceptionally knowledgeable in the repair and maintenance of instruments. It is a great pleasure to have my violin cared for by such an exceptional individual, who understands your needs and desires while continually expanding your instrument’s capabilities.
